Wedding Dress Styles

When it comes to wedding dress styles, there are five basic options available to choose from: A-line or Princess, Empire, Column, Ball Gown, and Mermaid. Learn about the different styles so you can choose the wedding dress that is right for you.

A Line/Princess Style
The thing about the A-line style dress is that it looks nice on nearly all body types. The cut works well to create the illusion of height for those who are short and provides a slimming effect for those who are more round. A full skirt will hide a larger bottom half. The dress style is very versatile because it can be altered easily to accentuate the best features and down play the ones you don't like.

Empire
This dress style works well for most body types, but seems to work best on those who have a small bust because the attention is drawn to the neckline. With embellishments and other adjustments, the dress can create the illusion of a larger bust. On the other hand, the dress will down play a larger bust because of the square neckline.

Column
This dress style works well for slender, lean figures. It does not work well to hide areas you may want to down play, but it will make short people look taller. This style hugs the body and therefore may make it harder to move.

Ball Gown
This style dress works well for slender body types, or those with larger lower bodies because of the way the dress fans out at the bottom. Various necklines can be accommodated with the style, as with various sleeve styles and embellishments. If you're short, it may be difficult to create a good proportion for the volume of the gown.

Mermaid
Like the column style, this style dress works better for slender and lean figures. This kind of dress hugs the body and therefore can be unflattering to those who don't enjoy their curves. Though there are many different options to choose from, these dresses may make it hard to move and will not hide any areas you don't want people to focus on.

Just remember that once you have decided upon your dress, you need to invest in the proper dress storage box for it otherwise you risk ruining your investment in many years time through fabric degradation.
